A summer outing

I don’t know if there was any sewing done but several members enjoyed an outing on Tuesday (the 22nd). Amy was gracious enough to host the troop and from all reports a good time was had by all. Amy gave everyone a tour of her home and I understand she has a fantastic sewing room. No wonder everything that comes out of it is amazing.

Can you guess who the photographers were?

Lots of drop-ins

There weren’t too many sewing today in spite of the rainy weather. Lots of folks are on holiday and lots more are planning vacations in the near future. Kathleen has some exciting travel plans and we’ll be missing her for a few weeks. Wendy is off on an adventure in England and it seems Rene has been back and forth across western Canada a few times. It was wonderful to have Sandra T stop in to say hello. Of course I haven’t been a “regular” for some time so maybe these folks are in attendance all the time!

There was a lot of conversations around the room regarding the summer mystery that a few of us are participating in. Donna D’s blocks are going together well; Kathleen is struggling with the scrappiness of it all. Of course everyone adds their opinion so even if they aren’t “doing” the mystery they are helping with the results.

And there was also a lot of discussion regarding the challenge for Hands Across the Water. There were a few interpretations of the “rules” and I can’t wait to see the results.

Our very sincere condolences to Annie in the loss of Al. When we sewed at the Seniors’ Centre it was Al we called on if there was anything amiss. And when we moved over to the Church we were always glad to see him when he dropped off Annie’s sewing supplies. Someone said today that we considered him a part of our Guild – that is so true.

Desserts Galore

I hope no one is counting the number of desserts on the table!

It was such a thrill for me to be returning to the bee that I baked a cake to mark the occasion. Although it had nothing to do with my return, both Kathleen and Sandra J also brought treats. Kathleen will celebrate a milestone birthday this week and we wish her a very happy day and year ahead.

So much catching up to do. I was very glad that the addition of Blaine to the group has not settled anyone down; they are the same rowdy crew that I remember! And speaking of rowdy, it was totally accidental that I gave Barb an extra thrill when I was reaching for my lunch bag.

Donna and Kathleen are both taking part in the Summer Mystery Sew-Along. Together they are working out all the kinks in the pattern so those of us who are slow to start will have the help we need when we do get at it. Kathleen has help again this year from Laila and she was busy at the ironing board most of the morning. Kathleen has totally lost control (or her mind) – her quilt will be completely scrappy!

Sandra J had a good holiday with her family in Penticton. Her grandson is growing so fast. She is working on her usual Christmas in July projects. Moreen had a lovely boat trip planned for the summer but after a short trial on the boat and a couple of gales it won’t happen this year.

I may not make it to sewing every week but it was so good to be among great friends again. And yes, I did come home and have a nap!
