It’s the Tuesday bee – do you know where your grandkids are?

August 6, 2013

Kathleen, Sandra and Rene knew where their granddaughters were today – they joined us for the bee. Abby (Kathleen), Jaya (Sandra) and Keiara (Rene) are all under twelve years old but sew like their grandmas. Jaya went from stitching her first seam to quilting in under three hours! Abbey and Keiara are working on baby gifts, while Jaya is making a blanket for her dog. We’re hoping all three girls will be back next week. Rene is also the proud grandmother of a little girl (Lauren Ellie) who was born on August 3rd.

The Queen of Blubber Bay (aka Barb) brought her monthly project samples, and choosing only one to make is going to be difficult. It’s a good thing I have three families to make wall hangings for. She also brought the supply list (which I forgot to pick up). Project Tuesday is in two-weeks time so I’ll share it next week.

We were glad to have Marlene back from her grandson’s wedding. No surprise that her quilt was well received by the newlyweds. Margie was back after her tennis game – with her project! Shirley stopped in for a quick show and tell, and Gwen joined us for lunch.

Kathleen will be teaching a Japanese woman some quilting techniques over the next few weeks. Her student visits Powell River for six weeks every summer and likes to try a variety of things when she is here. This year she wanted to learn to quilt and she couldn’t have found a better teacher!

The topic at the lunch table today turned to bed making – rather tame for our crew isn’t it? Most of us had to make our own beds as we were growing up, but some of the grandchildren in the room don’t make their beds. Barb says she never makes her bed – her husband makes it all the time. Marlene had a funny story of an aunt who was visiting her adult daughter. Her aunt got up one morning to go to the washroom and by the time she returned to her room her daughter had made her bed up and she couldn’t go back to bed as planned!

We didn’t take a survey, but we all were in agreement that Tuesday is our favourite day of the week. We laugh, we plan, we relieve all our stress! Come join us.

And on that “come join us” note, next week we are planning a pot luck lunch in honour of Kathie Vallee. She will be moving at the end of the month. Come out to sew, or just come out for lunch!
