It was certainly a hive of activity at the Center today. By 2 PM Marlene had worked her way through two projects and had to head out to her car to bring in a third! We started by taking a vote on which of Margie’s appliqué projects we thought she should keep and which one we thought she should sell (she already has a buyer so you’re out of luck). As we were looking at the two pieces Sandra mentioned that the birds on one piece looked bigger than the birds on the other piece (although they are exactly the same). She took that notion a bit further and reminded us of how certain fabrics in clothing can make us look bigger or smaller. Just the reminder we needed after all that Easter chocolate!
Marlene brought us a wonderful tip. If you use a particular needle size for a task (i.e., one needle size for embroidery and another size for applique) but when that task is done you still have life left in that particular needle, store it back in its case with a piece of thread through the eye. You’ll be able to see at at glance which needle to use the next time you need that size.
Marlene gave Sandra a lesson on cleaning her machine. The cleaning bug caught on and Kathleen gave her machine a clean as well. I’ve brought my bee machine to my sewing room and I’ll give it a good clean before the next bee. When is the last time your machine was cleaned? Do you have a cleaning schedule?
Have you seen the Quilt Show photos? I don’t see them posted on the website yet, but you can walk the show on YouTube .
I’ve only attended two quilt shows but I know a lot of the fun is exploring the vendor mall. If you aren’t planning to attend the CQA Conference in May you can still shop ’til you drop. The Virtual Marketplace is open for business and some of the stores have coupons for savings. If you want to see all the shops involved choose See All from the Sales Item box (at the bottom of the page).
