consumer hint of the week-cleaning cutting mats

So I was cutting multiple squares of insulbright for pot holders and after 30 swipes with my rotary cutter , the mat was a fuzzy mess. All the tiny micro cuts were embedded with the fuzzy fibers.

I grabbed a nail brush – didn’t work……..

grabbed a scrubbie from the shower that defoliates rough skin on your heels- didn’t budge the stuff.

grabbed a green scotch brand pad that’s rough enough for my cast iron pans – but still no go.

I was really ticked off and mentioned my predicament to Lainey at Galena Bay Fabrics. She said that there actually was a cleaner sold for removing fibers from your cutting mat and it looked like a school eraser. Rushed home and grabbed a new pink eraser from the drafting supplies, and whoopie!! it worked. There still are a few fibers left but 90% of them are gone. I will pick up a grey artist’s eraser tomorrow to see if it will remove the last few pieces.
