It’s over and we can claim success

March 22, 2009

My own sincere thanks for everyone’s good humour this week-end even in times of panic.
But the ballots are counted, the money is tallied, the raffle prizes are on their way to good homes, the door prizes were ohhhhed and ahhhhed over and I hope that your quilts are back on the beds or up in a place of honour in your homes ………
or are they just stacked inside the front door like mine and you’ve put your feet up with a glass of wine instead ??

Can I gently remind all committee people that we promised to get our reports done promptly so that Val can put this whole thing to bed ASAP and she can enjoy the rest of the guild year with no little details to wrap up.
See all of you on Thurs so we can congratulate each other at our wind up party.

SHOWTIME!!

March 21, 2009

If you come to the show today, the wonderful hardworkers from setup crew are the ones slightly bent over from fatique, bleery eyed and perhaps slow to answer your perky questions- but we’ll be there and ready to enjoy the show along with the rest.
my co-blogger won’t have left you a message as her hand is in a splint ( drat those mini van slidding doors) and we have to have a finishing bee day next time to help those who at the last minute were basting in their hanging sleeves back in the cloak room.
Let’s also pray that BC ferries sails today from Texada island or some of our members are going to have to swim, kayak or row.
Whoppee! there are lots of aprons in the challenge area

Hope we get a chance to chat today and admire the quilts together.

Guild Name Tags

March 8, 2009

Are you a new member to the guild?  Or perhaps been a member for a while, and haven’t made your guild name tag?

Here is the information you need to know to make your own.

Minimum required Materials:

  • 2 pieces of light blue fabric – equilateral triangle – 5″x5″x5″ – background and backing (if you are going to “pillow-case” triangle should be 6″x6″x6″)
  • 1 piece of batting – equilateral triangle – 5″x5″x5″
  • small piece of yellow fabric (2″x2″) – sun
  • pieces of green fabric – tree(s)
  • binding fabric
  • safety pin or brooch pin

Optional materials:

  • other fabrics for elements
  • beads

The requirements for the name tag are a sun, a tree and your name.  You can add other elements as you wish.

The name tag should have a straight edge at the top, and the point facing downwards.  Use the yellow piece of fabric and make a sun for your name tag.  Create trees from the green pieces.   Add your name.

Finish and embellish as you like.

Guild Coffee Break Goodies

March 6, 2009

Eleanor S. asked if I would post her recipe for her crisps that she had brought to the Guild Meeting.  It seems they were quite the success.   Would you like a page for Guild Recipes here on the Blog?  Just vote and let me know!

March Reminders

March 1, 2009

If you just stick your head in the sand like an ostrich , then you can ignore that the calendar is declaring that the quilt show is 21 days away.
Here’s a few reminders for guild members before the next business meeting.
1) you’ve got 4 days to sell the rest of your raffle tickets or buy them yourself. Please remember that Val is collecting all the ticket stubs and money on the 5th.

2) please come to the meeting on the 5th to ensure that you pick up the labels for your quilts. The Logistics committee would appreciate that you read the labels carefully and tell them about any corrections promptly.
If you pick up the labels at the meeting, then this saves the committee trying to chase you all over town.

3)Please signup for set up day and/or for the hostessing duties at Dwight Hall.

4) even if you are not planning to enter an apron for Jennie’s gingham challenge, you can still get in the mood by making and wearing an apron. Humourous, glamorous, durable and utilitarian…….feel free to interpret the project in any way you wish.

5) we’re having an impromptu party on March 26th, after our windup quilt show meeting. Listen for details at the meeting regarding food – but most importantly , it would be great if all the committee reports were handed in to Val that evening. That means you could start to fianalize your report now instead of the night before! And of course you’ve been making notes all along ,haven’t you?

I’m going to miss the march meeting of course as I must every year in order to attend a work related conference, but I will be able to have some fun time at Chapters, Michaels, and Fabricana in the evenings just so I am not thinking “teeth” for the whole 3 days.
See you at the Show!
